Artist's Statement
Drawing is a meditative, intuitive place for me. Mark making, discovering and exploring the expressive nature of line, while giving importance to negative space, creates a satisfying tension in me as each work evolves. The images are at times like notations, which reference landscape, architecture, the natural world, while also reflecting my internal life. Media I choose--ink, pastel, graphite, and the tools--pens, bamboo, pencils stick, brushes--allow for gratifying immediacy as well as their own unique results. What is key is the process: playing, tapping into my subconscious, responding to each mark to the point of knowing when to stop.
